Description:
Abstract:
This shapefile contains road
infrastructure information for the study area determined for the Iowa River at
Iowa City, IA. This information is to be displayed on the National Weather
Service's (NWS's) Advanced Hydrologic Prediction Service (AHPS) website. The shapefile consists of digital vector data published by the
Iowa Department of Transportation in 2006. The original dataset was clipped to
a 5,500 ft buffer around the corresponding study area. Roads constructed after
2006 were added to the shapefiles.
Purpose:
This data set was developed exclusively for use with the
National Weather Service's (NWS) Advanced Hydrologic Prediction Service (AHPS)
website.

Attribute_Accuracy:
Attribute_Accuracy_Report: The attributes in this
dataset are believed to be accurate.
Logical_Consistency_Report:
These data are believed to be
logically consistent, although not tested. Geometry appears topologically
clean.
Completeness_Report:
Spatial and attribute properties are believed to be
complete, although attribute information has been simplified. Geometric
thresholds from original data are preserved. No tests have been completed for
exhaustiveness.

Horizontal_Positional_Accuracy:
Horizontal_Positional_Accuracy_Report:
As with any engineering analysis of this type, variation
from the estimated flood heights and floodplain boundaries is possible. One
dimensional Hydraulic modeling lacks the ability to account for flow velocities
over the flood plain, which may result in variation of inundation. Details of the process used to produce this
data can be found in project documentation available from the data contact
person. Topographic data was provided by the United States Geological Survey
(USGS) and the cities of Iowa City and Coralville. Ayres Associates collected and integrated
topographic and aerial photogrammetric data.

Topographic data was provided by the United States
Geological Survey (USGS) and the cities of Iowa City and Coralville. Ayres Associates collected and integrated
topographic and aerial photogrammetric data.
IIHR-Hydroscience & Engineering gathered
bathymetric data using single and multibeam
sonar. Ayres Associates developed a
validated one-dimensional Hec-Ras model used in
generation of these data.
Process_Description:
IIHR-Hydroscience & Engineering
used the Hec-Ras Model developed by Ayres Associates
to generate several steady state simulations.
Each simulation was based on a discharge as determined by 0.5 foot river
stage intervals of the rating curve at USGS River gage 05454500
Iowa River at Iowa City, IA. The water
surfaces were exported as TIN layers to ArcMap using Hec-GeoRas. These
TINs were intersected with a DEM of the area.
Areas of positive inundation depth (1 meter grid spatial resolution)
were converted to vector format. The 1
meter inundation depth grids were then converted to 5 meter grids to allow
posting of the inundation depth datasets on the AHPS website. The depth units are given in feet.
